Lowery Air Force Base was opened in 1938 in Denver/Aurora Colorado. The runways were closed in 1966. The base was used for training bomber crews during WWII and then technical training after. The base was the home of the Air Force Academy from 1954-58 until it moved to Colorado Springs. The base was decommissioned in 1994. This B-52 is sitting in front of the "Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum" housed in two of the old hangers.
