Day 235 - Crane Earrings

8/23/2010

One of my favorite pair of earrings. These origami cranes were made by one of my favorite 6th grade students years ago and I made them into earrings. I think that he used Post-It-Notes to make the cranes. We were probably discussing the book Sadako and the Thousand Cranes about the little Japanese girl who believed that if she was able to fold 1000 origami cranes, she would be cured of the leukemia she had as a result of the atomic bomb that fell on her city of Hiroshima. Today school children leave paper cranes at her memorial in the Hiroshima Peace Park. I wore them to a dinner for Seeking Common Ground, Building Bridges for Peace the other night. It seemed appropriate!
