A spectacular sunrise at DIA.
Taken from the employee parking lot, featuring the blue horse!

Day 312
11/08/2010
Two days in a row! I took a photo of this one the next morning.
The end of daylight savings time put me into the parking lot at the right time.

Day 314
11/10/2010
Driving home into the storm.

Day 304, 305, 306, 308, 309, 325, 326 ---------------------- Souvenirs from the Philippines

Day 304
10/31/2010
One of the souvenirs I bought on the trip to the Philippines was a wonderful bag. This is a close-up of the fabric it is made from. (the fabric is probably from Indonesia) I love this type of printed cotton.

Day 305
11/01/2010
Some of the bracelets I bought at Davao's Aldevinco Shopping Center. This is well-known for its boutiques that sell indigenous souvenir items and is one of my favorite shopping destinations. It was great shopping with my "niece" Shingay who is a gifted bargainer! I will be selling them at the FACC fiesta next year.

Day 306
11/02/2010
We also found these cute little bags in Davao. Becca immediately decided to use one for her iPod. The ones that I have left will also be for my booth at the FACC fiesta.

Day 308
11/04/2010
We also bought some of these colorful "magic" bags that unzip into larger tote bags. They also are to be sold at the FACC Fiesta in June.

Day 309
11/05/2010
I told Becca I needed a fan and a hat for the Philippine sun. We found these fans that turn into hats and ended up buying a package of them. The ones we don't keep will also be sold at the Fiesta.

Day 325
11/21/2010
A selection of river pearl bracelets from the Philippines to sell at the FACC Fiesta in the spring.

Day 326
11/22/2010
A few of the macrame and shell necklaces that I bought in Bohol, Philippines to sell.

Day 302 - Filipino Breakfast

Day 302
10/29/2010
Our last breakfast in the Philippines included this lovely papaya
which must be eaten with the cute little calamanci (also called lemoncito). Delicious!

Day 299 - Day 300 - Day 301 Visiting Bohol

Day 299
10/26/2010
St.Joseph the Worker Cathedral of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. Built in the 1800's to replace an earlier Spanish building. It forms part of the city square.

Day 300
10/27/2010
One of the main symbols of the Province of Bohol is the Tarsier. The huge eyes provide this nocturnal animal with excellent night vision. The tarsier is the smallest primate and is endangered. They use their mobile ears to help track the insects which are their main diet. The Tarsier Foundation is dedicated to saving this cute, tiny animal.

Day 301
10/28/2010
One of our stops on our way to the beaches of Panglao, Bohol, was Hinagdanan Cave. A small karst cave made of limestone with stalagmites and stalactites and this interesting old (prehistoric? ) painting. The cave is known for the pool inside.

Day 294 - Manila International Airport

Day 294
10/21/2010
Waiting for a plane in Manila - this was our dinner at the airport.

Day 291- 293 Up in the Air Again

We are headed to the Philippines to meet up with our daughter Becca on her round the world odyssey and to visit old friends from when we were Peace Corps Volunteers there. Of course, since I work for an airline we are flying stand-by. There are two reasons for this: I am a low paid gate agent and it is cheap to go stand-by. So we first tried to fly from Los Angeles to Japan but that didn't work so we flew to San Francisco and ended up going to Korea on the way to the RP. We luckily were able to stay with a friend near SFO but ended up sleeping on uncomfortable airport benches in ICN. Those blips aside, we did get to Manila, just 36 hours later that we had hoped.

Day 291
10/18/2010
California coast from LAX-SFO flight.

Day 292

Day 286 Sunset

10/13/2010
Sunset seen while driving home from Aurora.

Day 276 - Quack

10/3/2010
This t-shirt reminded me of Becca!
When she was staying with Rach's grandmother-in-law in Jerusalem a few years ago
the old (104!) woman would ask her (in Arabic),
"who are you and why are you in my house?"
Becca would reply, "remember? I'm Becca".
The the grandmother would say, "Baka, what kind of name is that?"
Baka is apparently "Duck" in Arabic.
So for Halloween later that year, Becca dressed up like a duck.
The best part of the costume was her orange Crocs.

Day 275 - Cookies

10/2/2010
These wonderful cookies were made by Mae for our Rocky Mountain Cut-Ups meeting.
She used a vintage Reddy Kilowat cutter. So cute!

Day 274 - Western Coat and Hat

10/1/2010
This gentleman was proud of the jacket and hat that he had inherited from his brother. Note the wonderful beading down the front and the cape of fur over the shoulders.
Before you say anything, I am not generally in favor of hunting for fur but I will not criticize someone who has such a wonderful example of Western folk art as this jacket.

Day 273 - Missing Shirley

9/30/2010

Missing my friend Shirley who lost her fight this afternoon in California. Now she will be able to decorate her cookies without any pain, The angels will be the lucky recipients.

This photo was taken in June at the National Cookie Cutter Collector's Club Convention in California. This is my friend, Shirley with one of her cookie jars that she won in the convention raffle. We shared a lot of laughs.

Day 272 - Postcards

9/29/2010
Postcards from Europe:
Becca sent the one on the left from the Trans-Siberian RR.
Jean sent me the other one from Germany.

Day 271 - Flowers

8/28/2010
This looks like a flower that my Mom used to have in her garden. In a planter in front of my dentist's office.

Day 268 - Airport Gothic

9/25/2010
I like to call this "Airport Gothic".
This wonderful woman and her son were traveling thru my gate at DIA.

Day 265 - Pirate Day

9/22/2010
It was "Pirate Day" at the middle school.

Day 264 - Toddler Shoes

9/21/2010
These cute shoes were on a toddler at my gate. I googled Elmo shoes and found out they are called Polliwalks.

Day 262 - Hat

9/19/2010
This beautiful and unusual hat had a band with cotton bols tied to it.

Day 261 - Babies

9/18/2010
Babies are always a favorite at the Filipino club. Tavion had a new little friend. So cute!
